Seifert Foundation

Apr 26, 2022

Zbigniew Seifert (1946-1979) was a unique figure in the world of Polish jazz. Though he did not even live to be thirty-three and his musical output is modest, its artistic value still compels admiration and has a distinct impact on young artists. Joachim Ernst Berendt once said: "Zbigniew Seifert was one of those musicians thanks to whom so much good is now said in the world about Polish jazz.

The Zbigniew Seifert Foundation  was established on 13th May 2010 on the initiative of Aneta Norek-Skrycka. Its founders were Prof. Janusz M. Stefański and Aneta Norek-Skrycka - co- founders of the 2009 Festival 'Zbigniew Seifert in Memoriam', held in the year of the 30th anniversary of Zbigniew Seifert's death. The originator of the 2009 Festival was the present Chair of the Board of the Zbigniew Seifert Foundation, Małgorzata Jantos, Ph.D. The Festival was organised by Association Pro Musica Mundi.

The aim of the Foundation is to promote and popularise jazz music by co-operating with local and international institutions in Poland and abroad whose range of activity is similar to ours.

Monika Borzym & friends feat. Kacper Smolinski
Monika Borzym is one of Poland's most popular jazz singers. Her limitless technique and stylistic diversity are impressive.
Kacper Smoliński expresses his work through an instrument rarely found in the jazz world: the harmonica. With passion and consistency, he creates his own fascinating sound that pushes the boundaries of what is expected of this instrument. Together with friends from the Berlin jazz scene, a unique programme was developed that was supported by the Zbigniew Seifert Foundation.

EABS has been working on the concept of "reconstruction from deconstruction" since 2012, often redefining the classics from several decades ago, mixing them with the latest genres of contemporary urban music, creating a completely new quality and original sound. It is possible that many will claim that this is no longer jazz, but sometimes you must demolish and rebuild to create something completely new - based on the old foundations.
