Music workshop by NATALIE GREFFEL “WHAT'S JAZZ GOT TO DO WITH IT?”

  • May 14 2023 - 2:30 pm

FROM 16:30 - 17:30
AT ÆVE

This question grounds Natalie Greffel, and Eric Vaughn as they present a jazz performance orientated toward deconstructing Jazz as contemporary practice rooted in African-diasporic politics and legacies of the Great Black American music. This will be done through a poetic lecture and conversational interactions with the audience. In this way they will explore historical and personal connections, while offering a resting place for emotional reflections. Reaching back in the future to envision the past, to tap into and honor the transcendent web of an African ancestry that deeply influences western music today.

ABOUT NATALIE GREFFEL
She was born in post-colonial Mozambique and raised in Denmark from infancy. After moving to Berlin in 2010 to attend a music conservatory, and while engaged in various projects that exercised her stylistic flexibility, Natalie felt an increasing disillusionment with European Jazz; she instead felt drawn to the Afro-Brazlian music her mother played during childhood, which in turn began to reveal a cultural connectivity between Mozambique and Brazil.
